The UK Learning Disability Consultant Nurse Network (UKLDCNN) has agreed to take leadership of the website following the news of sweeping changes across the NHS in England.

This website is important to our profession its current and future members.

The website is now undergoing review and updating.

Please contact us with your thoughts and ideas for a renewed and refreshed space to support you in making a choice to join the profession or in staying within the learning disability nursing family.


RCN Scotland Awards 2026 - Learning Disability Nurse of the year 2026 and Overall Nurse of the Year

Huge congratulations to Nicola Braid who is Senior Nurse with NHS24 for winning not only the Learning Disability Nurse Award but the Overall Nurse of the Year Award, an amazing achievement !

Nicola received the award at a glittering ceremony at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh today (30 April 2026) in recognition of her transformation of unscheduled care for people with learning disabilities, their families, and carers. Her evidence-based, inclusive leadership has delivered measurable improvements in outcomes, culture, and equity across NHS 24 and NHS Scotland.

British Journal of Nursing Awards - Learning Disability Nurse of the year 2026

The BJN Awards held at BMA House in London on Friday, 20th March 2026, celebrated excellence in research and practice while recognising outstanding achievements across the nursing community.

The Learning Disability Nurse of the Year Award goes to the brilliant Scott Taylor and Kerry Anderson — a richly deserved recognition of two nurses making a real difference. Congratulations to you both.

Esther Smith and Claire Smith were shortlisted in acknowledging the innovative and well led work they have done.

The Cork Continence Team led by two Intellectual Disability Nurses headed up by Caroline Buckley took home their category award

Lincoln Gombedza came third in his category — a fantastic achievement and well-deserved visibility for learning disability nursing.
